Located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and covering about one third of the Delta itself, the Moremi Game Reserve is undoubtedly one of the top wildlife destinations in Africa.
Named after Chief Moremi of The BaTawana tribe, the reserve is famous for its variety and beauty and has a great diversity of plant and animal life which can be viewed in contrasting backgrounds of dry areas and areas of permanent water.
Home to nearly 500 species of bird attracted to the lagoons and a vast array of other species of wildlife, including Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyaena, Jackal, Impala, and Red Lechwe. These animals can be viewed on game drives or bush walks or on board a mokoro, a locally made, dug-out canoe which is poled along by your guide.
A prominent geographical feature of the Moremi Game Reserve is Chief’s Island and home to some of the most exclusive safari camps.
Located on the northern tip of Chief’s Island where there are enormous concentrations of game year-round, Mombo Camp has 9 spacious en-suite tents which are raised two metres from the ground providing excellent views. An exclusive camp.
Little Mombo, connected via a raised walkway to Mombo Camp, is a smaller more intimate camp with only 3 luxurious rooms under canvas with en-suite bathrooms and outdoor showers. The camp overlooks the surrounding floodplains which offer some of the best big game viewing in the Okavango Delta.
Chief’s Camp, one of the Sanctuary Retreats collection, is located on Chief’s Island, one of the many islands created by the seasonal flood waters of the Okavango Delta. The Camp has 12 luxury bush pavilions all with their own private decks as well as both indoor and outdoor showers.
Xigera Camp lies on the aptly named Paradise Island, surrounded by deep channels and lush vegetation. There are 10 raised luxury tents with superb views of the classic Okavango Delta floodplains that surround the camp.
