Royal Chundu

A sanctum of quiet solitude and untouched beauty

Royal Chundu was created in complete harmony with its natural surroundings and embraces the tradition and geography of the area while incorporating stylish and sophisticated accommodation, world class service and sumptuous pan-African cuisine.

Royal Chundu is a sanctum of quiet solitude and untouched beauty and the first Relais & Châteaux property in Zambia. It is located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River on the Zambian side, about a half hour drive, some 30 kms upstream from the magnificent Victoria Falls, the place where Zimbabwe and Zambia converge. What makes Royal Chundu even more special is its setting between Chobe National Park and Victoria Falls, two spectacular landmarks that you can easily access from the lodge on a day tour. Set on a 15km stretch of private waterway, protected by two sets of rapids, the only boats you might see belong to the lodge or local mokoro fishermen.

There are 2 lodges at Royal Chundu, Island Lodge and River Lodge. Island Lodge is the more private and exclusive of the two lodges at Royal Chundu. Located on Katambura private island, the lodge is surrounded by gentle river channels and dotted with Baobabs and two thousand year old Jackalberry trees. There are 4 magnificent villas at Island Lodge. Each villa has a spectacular deck, a large open-air bath, a glass-walled double shower as well as air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito net and a king-size, extra-length bed. There is an intimate boma area for outdoor evening meals, two lounges, a dining room, private dining decks and an infinity pool.

River Lodge is the main hub at Royal Chundu and the larger of the two lodges. There are 10 magnificent and spacious river-front suites at River Lodge. The entire lodge looks out onto the mighty Zambezi creating a spectacular and dramatic setting with the Matetsi Private Game Reserve on the opposite side of the river. Each suite has a double shower, air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito nets, a king-size bed and a generous deck with excellent views of the surroundings. There is a beautiful boma for outdoor evening meals, a library, wine cellar and more.

Activities available to guests include Sunset Cruises, authentic Tribal Village Walk, Birding Safaris, Canoeing trips, Fishing trips and so much more.
